The University encourages academic staff to apply to external research granting schemes for research support, but has also established a range of research granting schemes which provide internal support for both new and experienced researchers. These schemes have been designed to strengthen the competitiveness of staff in gaining external grants and to encourage staff to apply for external funding of projects.

The University provides central funding to support a range of QUT research schemes. Researchers have the opportunity to obtain substantial research support through the following research and development support schemes by applying directly to the Office of Research:

2008 Vice-Chancellor's Research Fellowship Scheme

The QUT Vice–Chancellor’s Research Fellowship Scheme has been established to promote and grow research capacity at the early career stage through the appointment of high calibre research staff in identified areas of strength.
