The Office of Research works with external research-related granting bodies in both the public and private sector. Major funding bodies include the Australian Research Council (ARC), National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and other national competitive funding schemes.

The ARC and the NHMRC provide funding to support discovery style research, higher degree research training through scholarships, research-only career's through Fellowships as well as other research related activities. The major rounds are cyclic and generally close between February and May of each year, with results announced around October/November.
