The role of the Research Development Section, Office of Research, is to support and stimulate the development of QUT's research profile through:
- the provision of expert advice and assistance to the research community on research grant issues
- coordination and submission of grant applications from QUT researchers
- management of the grant acceptance process
- building, facilitating and maintaining effective relationships with QUT’s research partners and grant agencies
- delivery of professional development activities to QUT staff on research-related topics
The Section is the registered contact point for external granting agencies, and applications for support from competitively-based and all other funding agencies must be administered through the office. This allows for the professional and efficient administration of research grant activity within the University.
Services provided to QUT staff
To support researchers in the application process we provide services to QUT staff which assist them to:
- Find a grant scheme: Assistance in seeking external grant opportunities, through the provision of the SPIN research funding opportunities database and training in its use
- Strategic advice on the funding of research projects and major research funding initiatives
- Collaborate: Assistance with the initiation and development of research collaborations with external partners (university, research organisation, government, community, industry). Please note, research collaborations which involve commercialisation of QUT intellectual property, technology transfer or other QUT intellectual property transactions are managed by qutbluebox, the commercialisation company for QUT.
- Apply for a grant: Review and feedback on draft grant applications
- Accept a grant: Review, advice, and assistance with negotiation of contracts and agreements for successful grants (in collaboration with the Office of Commercial Services, as required)
- Manage a grant
- Develop grant-writing and management skills: Provision of staff training for groups on numerous research-related topics
