The Office of Research collects information about the research outputs of QUT staff and students. These outputs fall into two categories:

1. Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC)

  • Types of Research Outputs: 2008 research publications which meet the HERDC category criteria
  • Categories: Books, Book Chapters, Journal Articles and Conference Papers
  • Deadline: The 2009 Collection for 2008 research publications is now open and has an internal deadline of February 2009. Please visit our HERDC pages or contact your research administrator for more information.

2. QUT Scholarly Collection

  • Types of Research Outputs: Scholarly, professional and research publications (research publications which do not meet the HERDC criteria) and other scholarly and research outputs
  • Categories: All types of research outputs (print and non-print) eg reference book entries, reports, computer software, technical drawings, creative works, etc
  • Deadline: Open all year

Why do we collect publication data?

Research output information is stored in the ResearchMaster Database (RM) and used for a number of purposes. Publications entered in the HERDC result in government funding for QUT and both Collections are used to measure research performance and as part of the academic promotion process.

How do I add a publication to the HERDC or Scholarly Collections?

First of all you must determine the relevant collection for your publication. Once you've done this, complete the relevant publication collection category coversheet and then submit this coversheet, and a copy of all the requested verification material (detailed on page two of each coversheet), to your research administrator.

For more detailed information on how to submit a publication to each collection please visit the following pages:

Please note the information on this website referring to the HERDC is based on the latest information released by the government. It is subject to change and can be updated by the government throughout the collection period. For further information please refer to the HERDC Specifications on the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) website.
