The Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) encompasses the annual collection and reporting of research income to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The income figure is used as part of the calculation for the Institutional Grant Scheme (IGS) and the Research Training Scheme (RTS), distributed annually to eligible higher education providers in Australia through DEEWR.
Research Income that qualifies for the HERDC is:
- Australian Competitive Grants income (Category One - 51 accounts)
- Other Public Sector funding (Category Two - 52 & 64 accounts)
- Industry and Other funding (Category Three - 53 & 65 accounts)
- CRC Funding (Category Four - 54 accounts)
The Office of Research prepares the data regarding the research income received in a calendar year by QUT.
Preliminary income data figures are sent to Faculties for comment in April/May each year.
The Strategic Information and Analysis Section (SIA), Divison of Finance and Resource Planning, then finalises this income data and forwards it to DEEWR as part of the HERDC.
