"To provide high quality service and expertise to the QUT research community with a focus on developing the institution’s local, national and international research profile" The Office of Research is an operational unit within the Division of Research and Commercisalisation and reports directly to the Deputy-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Commercialisation). The Office is directly responsible for supporting, stimulating and developing QUT's research profile. The Office provides substantial input on research and research-related policy matters in areas such as industry collaboration, strategic research priority areas, early career researcher development and the management of cross-faculty, multi-disciplinary research teams. Administrative roleIn its administrative role, the Office liaises with external granting agencies and coordinates all new and continuing externally funded grants and fellowships. This function includes administration regarding ethical, contractual, financial and reporting obligations pertaining to research awards. In addition, the office coordinates and manages a wide range of internal grant schemes funded through the University Research Budget. The Office has a strong research data management unit able to provide performance data for schools, centres, faculties/institutes and individuals. Educative functionThe Office also fulfils a significant educative function that includes planning and organising a variety of research development initiatives to enhance the research endeavours of academic staff and postgraduate students, in consultation with faculties, schools and centres. These activities include research information seminars, specific workshops, one-to-one grant review sessions and school/faculty sessions as part of the broad, but specialised educative function. Post-award grant administrationThe Office also oversees the post-award administrative responsibilities for all internal and external grants awarded to QUT, and liaises closely with granting agencies and external clients to ensure that all administrative and financial requirements are met in a timely manner. CollaborationQUT is committed to innovative, industry-driven research and research training, and the Office interacts closely with external funding agencies, industry partners, federal and state governments and community groups. Senior staff within the office play an external outreach function engaging directly with private, public and not-for-profit partners and are available to assist with the development of collaborative research proposals. Research collaborations which involve commercialisation of QUT intellectual property, technology transfer or other QUT intellectual property transactions are managed by qutbluebox, the commercialisation company for QUT. Performance dataThe Office of Research is also responsible for collecting, updating and analysing data across recognised performance data (research income, publications and higher degree research completions/load). Extensive reports and analysis is regularly provided to Institutes, Faculties, Assistant Deans (Research), Heads of Schools and Centre Directors. AdviceThe Office provides initial advice, through appropriate University authorities, on the research related obligations required of successful researchers, particularly on issues involving Intellectual Property, Ethics, financial reporting and other agreements to which QUT may at times be a signatory. |
